Most of my students normally ask me about the differences between persons and people, well..
 (A maioria dos meus alunos normalmente me perguntam sobre as diferenças entre persons e people)

 persons and people are the correct plual forms of person. They are used interchangeably, but their original purposes were different.
  (persons e people são as formas corretas do plural de person. Eles são usados ​​como sinônimos, mas seus propósitos originais eram diferentes).



Persons was originally used when the number of persons could be easily counted:
(persons foi originalmente usado quando o número de pessoas podiam ser facilmente contados)
Three persons ate lunch together.    (Três pessoas almoçaram juntos).


People was used to describe a group in which the number of individuals was hard to count:
(People foi usado para descrever um grupo em que o número de indivíduos era difícil de contar)
 
Many people went shopping yesterday .   (Muitas pessoas foram às compras ontem).

Nowdays, we use people much more frequently than persons as the plural form of person. Therefore, "three people: is just correct as "three persons".
(Hoje em dia, usamos people com muito mais frequência do que persons como a forma plural de person. Portanto, "three people: é tão correto quanto "three persons").
